Important Notes:

  • Participants must be physically fit and suitable for outdoor wetland exploration activities in summer. The activity takes place near the mangrove forest adjacent to the HKFYG Jockey Club Sai Kung Outdoor Training Camp. To reach the mangrove forest, participants need to traverse a short slope, cross a shallow stream (up to calf-deep), and walk on the muddy wetland.
  • Participants’ feet may get wet. They should prepare athletic shoes, water shoes, or sandals that can get wet and cover the toes and heels. Hiking poles are recommended. Our staff will check each participant’s shoes, and those with unsuitable water shoes will not be able to join the mangrove forest tour.
  • The mangrove forest is a wetland with more insects compared to urban areas. Participants should take their own mosquito repellent measures, such as wearing light-colored, breathable long-sleeved clothing or using eco-friendly repellents.
  • Participants should bring their own change of clothes, shoes, towels, etc. as needed.
  • The HKFYG will provide drinking water, but participants should bring their own water bottles.
  • Participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation to the camp (see “Transportation” for details).
  • Participants must follow the “Leave No Trace” principle, take their own trash, and respect nature.
  • In case of inclement weather or other unforeseeable circumstances, the HKFYG reserves the right to change the activity to an indoor eco-tour, postpone, or cancel the event. The HKFYG’s decision will be final.
  • In accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, the personal information provided will only be used for matters directly related to the “Mangrove Forest Eco-tour” registration. Please refer to the HKFYG’s Privacy Policy Statement at hkfyg.org.hk for details on our personal data handling practices.

The route to the mangrove forest (approximately a 2-minute walk) may become muddy and slippery if it has just rained heavily prior to the activity. Participants are advised to bring hiking poles.

To reach the mangrove forest, participants need to cross a shallow stream (the deepest part is up to calf-deep). Participants should wear sports shoes, water activity shoes, or water shoes that can get wet and cover the toes and heels. Participants are advised to bring hiking poles to help maintain balance when crossing the shallow stream.

Participants must wear sports shoes, water activity shoes, or water shoes that can get wet and cover the toes and heels.

The training site is near the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Jockey Club Sai Kung Outdoor Training Camp, close to the mangrove forest. The route to the mangrove forest involves a short uphill slope and crossing a shallow stream. The mangrove forest is located at the estuary, which is a wetland mudflat.
