Overview
The 2026/27 Campus Decarbonisation Ambassador Programme aims to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to develop impactful environmental initiatives within their schools. Through training, hands-on project implementation, and school-wide engagement activities, student ambassadors will become change agents who drive measurable environmental impact and promote sustainable behaviours among their peers.
Since the 2024/25 academic year, The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) has launched the Campus Decarbonisation Ambassador Programme to empower youth to promote low-carbon lifestyles and drive progress toward carbon neutrality in schools. Through the collective efforts of participating teachers and students, the programme has achieved a significant cumulative reduction of 1.84 million kilograms of carbon emissions.
Building on the success of previous years, the programme will be further enhanced in 2026/27 under the theme “Making a Green Impact”. Student Ambassadors will play a more active role in designing and implementing environmental initiatives and campaigns that foster positive behavioural change within their school communities. They will also learn how to measure the impact of their initiatives and collect and report relevant data to demonstrate outcomes. Participating schools will have the opportunity to share their experiences and showcase their decarbonisation efforts and achievements at the year-end Award Ceremony, providing a platform to celebrate good practices and inspire wider action towards a low-carbon future.
Content
The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups has been promoting the “Youth Decarbonisation Platform” since the 2023/24 school year, achieving over 2,700,000 kilograms of carbon reduction to date. As we enter the third year of the programme, our objective is to encourage increased youth participation in decarbonisation efforts. We are committed to empowering young leaders who are passionate about promoting low-carbon living on campus, and to guide the school towards achieving carbon neutrality.

Programme Details
Recruitment
For each participating school, teachers-in-charge to recruit around 5 – 15 students who are passionate about environmental issues and enjoy taking part in extracurricular activities.
Responsibilities of the “Campus Decarbonisation Ambassadors”
- Attend programme activities organised by HKFYG, including briefing session, workshop, presentation and the award ceremony.
- Plan, implement and promote a student-led environmental initiative on campus focusing on energy conservation, waste reduction, or other sustainability-related themes.
- Lead the implementation of programme campaigns, including either the “Adopt a Fan Month” or/ and “Green Diet Month” Initiative, and complete and submit the participation records.
- Actively participate in future sustainability related OLE activities under the programme.
- Share project outcomes and best practices through a presentation at the end of the programme.

Programme Awards
| Award | Detail |
| Campus Decarbonisation Ambassadors | Teachers-in-charge complete the registration form (excel sheet) of participating students, and all students will receive a certificate.

| Eco-action Champion Award | One Gold, one Silver, one Bronze Award will be given based on the total annual decarbonisation amount, including all annual thematic activities and decarbonisation events held. In addition, Merit Awards will be given to schools contributing to decarbonisation.

| Low-Carbon Diet Campus Award | During the “Green Diet Month” campaign in November, students are encouraged to choose beef-free or vegetarian meals and fill in the record sheet. The school with the highest carbon reduction will receive the award.

| Smart Campus Energy Award | During March, April or May, the entire school body is encouraged to join in the “Adopt a Fan Month” campaign by using electric fans instead of air-conditioners and filling in the record sheet. The school with the highest carbon reduction will receive the award.

| Campus Decarbonisation Star Ambassadors Award | Teachers-in-charge may nominate up to 2 Student Ambassadors who were actively involved in promoting carbon reduction. There is no grade limit for the nominated students.
Selected students will receive certificates and prizes in recognition of their outstanding leadership and contributions to campus decarbonisation.
