Eatwise@OTC

Our first featured environmental education program – “Eatwise@OTC” was being launched in our HKFYG Jockey Club Sai Kung Outdoor Training Camp on April 2015.

HKFYG would like contribute in solving the food waste problem in Hong Kong by having a synergy effect with our Hong Kong government’s recent environmental campaign – “Food Wise Hong Kong”.

 

There are four parts in our “Eatwise@OTC” program:

1)      Zero-waste campaign

  • All campers are invited to participate
  • We introduce the concept of food waste reduction in the camp briefing to influence our campers to reduce their food waste generation during their meal
  • We will invite campers to put the leftovers into the food waste collection bins after each meal. Our staff will then recycle these food wastes by the utilization of the food waste composter. The compost generated will be used in gardening in OTC.
  • We will monitor and report our progress of food waste recycling regularly

 

 

2)      Environmental Protection and Food waste recycling workshop

  • The content include organic composting, making environmental soaps and pots etc
  • Through the demonstration and introduction of Hong Kong’s food waste problem, the campers will know more clearly about how to achieve food waste reduction in daily life.

3)      Environmental Guided Tour

  • We will introduce to our campers about our different environmental facilities in camp site, including sewerage treatment plant, different tree protection zones, wetlands etc.
  • Through the guided tour, we hope to influence our campers to appreciate our natural environment in Hong Kong and support environmental protection in daily life.

 

4)      DIY mushroom cultivation workshop

  • The campers can try to mix the coffee grounds, sawdust etc to DIY the mushroom. We hope to educate our campers about how beneficial is the organic farming to their health and the environment.
