Clothing ‘Sort-a-Thon’

Introduction

Did you know that in Hong Kong we dump around 170 tonnes of clothes in our landfills every day, equivalent to around 1.2 million t-shirts? There’s no getting away from it, the fashion industry is hugely polluting.

Redress is a pioneering Hong Kong environmental charity with a mission to educate and empower the fashion industry and consumers to reduce clothings negative environmental impact by shifting to circular solutions. One of the ways they do this is by increasing the re-sale, re-use and recycling of clothing.

Through Redress’ Clothing Takeback Programme, we collect unwanted clothing from Hong Kongers, and then carefully sort it together with volunteers in order to redistribute it for re-sale at Redress’ secondhand stores, re-use by those in need in our community through our work with 10+ local charity partners, or recycling. Their careful sorting process maximises the value of each item, better supports their charity partners by matching clothing with their specific needs, and reduces wastage.
